The New York Jets are in the midst of a pivotal offseason that could completely alter the future of the franchise. Aaron Glenn is firmly on the hot seat, and must figure out a way to improve the team for the future if he wants to save his job.
The biggest area of focus for the Jets this offseason will be to figure out their quarterback position. Justin Fields is a cut or trade candidate for them after not fitting their offensive scheme, and Tyrod Taylor is not who they should rely on once again.
While the Jets hold two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, there isn’t really any franchise-changing quarterback worthy of a first-round selection.
The Jets must then look to go the trade route to get at least a bridge quarterback that can keep them afloat. That is where they can turn to the Philadelphia Eagles to solve this issue.
Ahead of the NFL Combine taking place, Daniel Jeremiah dropped nuggets from what he’s hearing concerning the draft process. One of the things he brought up was the quarterback situation for the Jets. He went on to say that he expects the Jets to target either Tanner McKee or Davis Mills.
Specifically Jeremiah said, ”Those are a couple guys I’d be curious about taking a flyer on for a year if you can trade a mid-round pick,” he said. “I don’t think I would lean in the direction of the draft for their quarterback this year. I think they will be all in for that next year.”
For the Eagles, trading McKee is in play, especially with a general manager like Howie Roseman. With the Eagles having Jalen Hurts, trading McKee wouldn’t put them in a dire situation themselves at the quarterback position, and instead would help them gain more draft capital.
By trading for Tanner McKee, the New York Jets get a good bridge quarterback that can help the offense stay stable until the 2027 NFL Draft.
