One of the major stories this NFL offseason revolves around the Philadelphia Eagles and their star wide receiver, A.J. Brown.
Rumors are swirling that the Eagles might be considering a trade, and a key contender to acquire Brown could be the Patriots. He previously played under New England’s head coach, Mike Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans, and it’s clear that he has a fondness for the Patriots, growing up as a fan. He even surprised everyone on Thursday when he appeared on the “Dudes On Dudes” podcast alongside former Patriots stars Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman. Edelman reminded him, “Just remember we’re all Patriots,” to which Brown responded with a playful wink.
Many people reacted strongly to Brown’s wink, but his teammate, running back Saquon Barkley, isn’t overly concerned about the Eagles losing him.
“I don’t want to speak for A.J. Brown, love him as a teammate and a brother, but he is a huge Patriots fan,” Barkley told “NFL Live” on Friday. “He’s always been a big Patriots fan, and I think this year, before Dallas, Tom Brady was throwing him the ball. For him, he was like a kid in a candy store, but that wink is just all fun and games. I will give you the inside scoop: A.J. Brown is a big Patriots fan.”
Just because Brown is a passionate supporter of the Patriots doesn’t mean he’ll be joining them anytime soon. He’s still under contract until 2029, which means the Eagles would have to be willing to either cut him or trade him to New England.
If the Eagles are open to a trade, then the Patriots could be a possibility for Brown. However, if they decide to hold on to him, staying in Philadelphia for another season may be his only option.
