After breaking the NFL’s single-season sack record in 2025, Browns’ superstar Myles Garrett has his sights set on the all-time sack record
For all intents and purposes, the Cleveland Browns labored through a miserable campaign in 2025. One of the lone bright spots of the year was the play of superstar defensive end Myles Garrett, who broke the NFL’s single-season sack record by finishing the year with 23 sacks. Unsurprisingly, Garrett earned the second Defensive Player of the Year Award of his career.
Garrett could retire today and be a shoo-in for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but there’s still more that he wants to accomplish during his career. And while he may be fresh off a historic season, it seems like there’s already a new goal Garrett has set for himself as he looks to continue terrorizing quarterbacks over the next few years.
Myles Garrett Sets Sights on NFL’s All-Time Sack Record
The Browns selected Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and he has turned himself into arguably the most disruptive defensive player of his generation. Garrett is a seven-time Pro Bowler who has earned five All-Pro First Team selections, in addition to the aforementioned pair of Defensive Player of the Year Awards.
And yet, despite all he accomplished earlier in his career, Garrett took things to another level in 2025. Not only did he finish with an NFL record 23 sacks, but he also racked up 60 tackles (33 of which went for a loss, which was also tops in the league), one pass deflection, and three forced fumbles. Garrett is known for his ability to get to the quarterback, but that’s not all he’s capable of doing.
Breaking the single-season sack record is a big honor that Garrett clearly does not take lightly, but he already has his sights set on his next big challenge. According to Garrett, he’s now going to begin chasing the NFL’s all-time sack record, which is currently held by Bruce Smith, who finished his career with 200 sacks on the dot.
“I’m going to take that down, and prefer that I take it down here in the next five years,” Garrett said in an interview with Casino Guru News. “That is definitely on my mind to go out there and get. That’s a goal I’ve had for years now since college.”
Could Myles Garrett Break the NFL’s All-Time Sack Record?

Through his first nine years in the NFL, Garrett has averaged 15.9 sacks per season, even though he missed considerable time in both 2017 and 2019. He isn’t going to get 23 sacks every year, though, so it’s fair to say that figure is probably a fair representation of what can be expected for Garrett over the next few seasons.
Garrett currently has 125.5 career sacks, so if he keeps up at his current pace, he could conceivably break the record within the next five seasons. Of course, Garrett will likely regress as he gets older, but he only just turned 30 years old back in December, so he still has ample time to chase down this record. It’s going to be easier said than done, but if Garrett can keep producing at this level for five or six more years, he could break Smith’s longstanding record.
