The New York Jets are considering all options toward retaining running back Breece Hall, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who outlined some possibilities.

Hall, who has played four NFL seasons after the Jets selected him in the 2022 NFL draft out of Iowa State, amassed 1,415 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns last year. He crossed 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career as well.

The Jets traded two defensive cornerstones in cornerback Sauce Gardner (to the Indianapolis Colts) and defensive lineman Quinnen Williams (to the Dallas Cowboys) amid a 3-14 season last year.

Hall was also the subject of trade rumors, but he stayed aboard. It’s clear the team values Hall. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn made very clear to reporters last October that he didn’t want to see Hall go.

Jets general manager Darren Mougey appears to feel the same way based on his comments after the season.

“Breece is a good player,” Mougey said, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “I want as many good players back as we can. So, we’ll go through this process and we’ll see how free agency unfolds, but we want to add good players.”

The Jets have the option to keep Hall for a year if they tag him. In fact, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reported on Feb. 17 that the Jets would “probably” do so.

If the Jets tag Hall, they can still sign him to a long-term deal as long as they agree to terms by July 15. If not, then Hall would play under contract with the Jets for one more season.
