“The uniforms were made possible thanks to a $40,000 donation from the Titans and USA Football, the sport’s National Governing Body – the organization responsible for selecting Team USA Football,” the spokesperson said.
Each school was also provided with the necessary flag football equipment.
The spokesperson said this marks the first year that girls flag football is being implemented in Nashville middle schools.
“It also marks another milestone in the Titans’ on-going commitment to advancing the sport and giving girls a pathway to experience football first-hand as MNPS becomes the first large public school district in Tennessee to sanction girls’ flag at the middle school level,” the spokesperson said.
Since it was launched in 2021, the Titans’ flag football initiative has grown to include more than 160 teams across Tennessee.
“This year will mark the second season girls flag football is considered a sanctioned sport within the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA), and the first in which student athletes will compete for a TSSAA-sanctioned state championship,” the spokesperson said.
The NCAA announced on January 16 that flag football would be added the the NCAA Emerging Sports for Women Program, which will help schools provide more athletic opportunities for women and help flag football achieve NCAA championship status.
