There might be a good reason why some players make it to NFL free agency.
One reason many don’t make it is that, with the NFL raising the salary cap so much, each team can now sign a couple more of its own free agents rather than letting them hit the open market.

Yet, a reason a player may make it to NFL free agency is, though he is physically gifted, his coaches, his team is tired of dealing with his issues. With less good players being available, teams really have to ask themselves, “Ok, why is this guy being able to hit the free agent market, when his team certainly has the money to resign him?”
Washington Commanders‘ analyst Logan Paulsen brought up an NFL receiver who appears headed to the open market. “That’s where Romeo Doubs is interesting,” conveyed Paulsen on Friday’s episode of “BMitch and Finlay” on 106.7 The Fan in Washington. “Again, he’s got some personality stuff, you know, but he’s skilled, very, very talented.”
Paulsen is correct regarding Doubs’ talent. Doubs caught 55 passes for the Packers in 2025, averaging 13.2 yards per reception, and he also caught six touchdown passes. Doubs also caught 41 passes for first downs. His 64.7% catch percentage and 8.5 receiving yards per target were both career highs in his four NFL seasons, all in Green Bay.

Paulsen asked, “Is he (Doubs) ready for a larger role in an (NFL) offense? These are the questions where you sit down, where you talk to everybody in Green Bay that you know and figure out whether he’s ready, or not.”
Indeed, Doubs has collected 202 receptions over four seasons with the Packers. That is a mark of consistency. So, why are the Packers reportedly going to let Doubs walk and hit the free-agent market? Isn’t it worth the Commanders doing all they possibly can to learn why?
