The Green Bay Packers are expected to release veteran offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, and he could be a fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have a vacancy on the left side of the offensive line.
Jenkins is due $20 million in 2026, and none of that salary is guaranteed. Releasing him will save the Packers that amount from their 2026 salary cap, while incurring a $4.8 million dead cap hit. Jenkins was selected as a notable cap casualty by NFL.com this week, and Sports Illustrated Green Bay Packers reporter Bill Huber said he is widely expected to be released.
Jenkins, 30, has been with the Packers since they selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Jenkins has played all five positions on the offensive line for the Packers in his career, starting at left guard in 2019, and then moving to left tackle in 2021, splitting time between left guard and right tackle in 2022, back to left guard for 2023 and then moving to center in 2025.
Last season, Jenkins suffered a broken leg in the Packers’ Week 10 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, ending his season.
The 6-foot-5, 311-pound offensive lineman was a Pro Bowler at the end of the 2020 and 2022 season, and was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2019.
Steelers starting left guard Isaac Seumalo is set to become a free agent, creating the lone vacancy on the team’s offensive front entering the 2026 offseason. Jenkins was a teammate of Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the first three seasons of his career.
