Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby is teaming up with the organization’s former Bay Area rival San Francisco 49ers.

But he’s not being traded.

Crosby announced on social media he had made an ownership investment in Premier League team Leeds United, a franchise owned by 49ers Enterprises.

“Winners recognize winners,” Crosby posted. “Proud to invest with Leeds United. All in on the culture.”

Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe is also the executive vice president of football operations for the 49ers.

Leeds won the Championship last season under his direction, earning a promotion back to the Premier League. They currently sit 15th in the standings, six points clear of a relegation spot.

Crosby, who also serves as assistant general manager of Eastern Michigan football, has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason as he recovers from surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee.

The 49ers have been one of several teams commonly linked to an interest in acquiring Crosby.

While the announcement of his investment triggered jubilation among 49ers fans on social media Friday, Crosby is among several athletes and entertainers who have bought into the star-studded ownership group of Leeds United.

Actors Will Ferrell and Russell Crowe, golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, decorated Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and NBA star Russell Westbrook are part of the group.

One of the top players for Leeds United is American midfielder Brenden Aaronson.
