Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are being sued for trademark infringement after the pair opened up a steakhouse in Kansas City.
The restaurant, named ‘1587 Prime’ is being sued by a sneaker store named ‘1587 Sneakers’, which claims the use of the same number infringes upon them and is causing damage.
The steakhouse’s name comes from the Chiefs stars’ jersey numbers. Mahomes is 15 and Kelce is 87.

Both businesses have registered trademarks of their respective names in different categories (food versus clothing), though the sneaker store was registered first by about nine months.
According to ESPN, the owners of 1587 Sneakers have alleged that many customers have contacted them, assuming they are affiliated with Mahomes and Kelce.
“From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding,” 1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King said in a written statement to ESPN.
“That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably.”
The name for the sneaker company was inspired by the year 1587, which features the oldest recorded presence of Asians in what is now the United States.
They were featured on the television show ‘Shark Tank’ in 2025, though they did not receive an investment offer from the hosts.

Kelce and Mahomes both have a lot to ponder as the NFL off-season begins.
The former is weighing up retirement. Kelce, 36, is out of contract and admits he isn’t certain about his future, but hasn’t ruled out returning to Kansas City.
He will marry pop star Taylor Swift later in the year in what is sure to be its own circus.
Mahomes meanwhile is working his way back from a torn ACL suffered late in the season. He is hopeful of being ready for week one of 2026, but has a lot of rehab in front of him.
The star quarterback has restructured his contract for the 2026 season, saving the Chiefs over $61m in salary cap.
If you’re in the Kansas City area, the menu for 1587 Prime features a 450g boneless ribeye sourced from Black Opal in Victoria, Australia – an excellent choice that will set you back $234.
