Just a couple of short years ago, the Washington Commanders and quarterback Jayden Daniels made a run all the way to the NFC Championship Game.
Heading into last season, the Commanders were viewed as a potential Super Bowl contender. Unfortunately, due to injuries and other circumstances, they suffered through a brutal year and missed the playoffs with a 5-12 record.
Daniels dealt with multiple different injuries throughout the season. He was only able to play in seven games. Plenty of other key players also missed time throughout the year.
With that being said, Washington will have a chance to get aggressive this offseason. If the Commanders can make the right moves, they will be a contender once again in the NFC. Adding more talent around Daniels should be a priority.
Keeping that in mind, a new idea has been suggested for Washington that would add a major weapon for the young quarterback.
Washington Commanders Linked to Projected $43 Million Move
Nate Davis of USA Today has named the Commanders as a potential free agency destination for Atlanta Falcons free agent tight end Kyle Pitts.
Washington won’t be alone if it is interested in signing Pitts. In fact, Davis named both the Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as potential contenders to sign the talented tight end.
“The No. 4 overall pick in 2021 − the highest-drafted tight end ever − Pitts, 25, never seemed to fully reach his potential with the Atlanta Falcons, which isn’t completely an indictment of him,” Davis wrote.
“But he was a second-team All-Pro in 2025 and did just put together his best season since he was a rookie, catching a career-high 88 passes and five TDs. Pitts could really take off in an offense that truly leverages his estimable abilities … and maybe even has the foresight to feature him in the red zone.”
Spotrac has projected that Pitts will command a deal worth around $43.3 million over the course of four seasons. That kind of deal would be worth taking a risk on for the Commanders.
What Would Kyle Pitts Bring to the Commanders?
While Pitts has never been able to live up to the hype that he entered into the NFL with as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, he’s a talented tight end.
During the 2025 NFL season with Atlanta, the 25-year-old played in 17 games. He caught 88 passes for 928 yards and five touchdowns.
Standing in at 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, Pitts possesses elite size, speed, and athleticism for a tight end. He would provide Daniels with a potentially elite security blanket and a vertical threat at the position.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors about Washington as the offseason gets underway. Pitts may not end up being a target for the Commanders, but he could make a lot of sense as a long-term replacement for Zach Ertz.
