Eagles running back Saquon Barkley feels confident in the team’s chances on rebounding from a disappointing 2025 season based off a meeting he had with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

Barkley was a guest on the NFL Network show “The Insiders” Friday. During his appearance, he shared his early impressions on the new scheme that Eagles will be using.

“I’m super excited about it,” Barkley said. “I’m going on Year 9, which is crazy to say, and I’ve had a lot of different coaches and head coaches and been a part of a lot of systems. I don’t think I really came across a system like this. For me…it’s refreshing. You get something new, you get to learn something new.”

Barkley said that he has met with Mannion and some of the other coaches this offseason in more of a get-to-know-you atmosphere instead of dissecting the playbook. After that meeting, Barkley is feeling confident about what the offense could do next season.

“You love the challenge of putting yourself in a new system and doing the things that you do really well and also things that you need to improve on, and that they’re going to challenge us to do it,” Barkley said. “I feel like we are able to have that mindset as an offense and buy into that. I think the sky is the limit.”

Last season, the Eagles offense finished 24th in the league in total offense averaging 311.2 yards per game. The team was also 19th in points per game (22.3). The totals led to the Eagles moving on from former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and signing Mannion to the staff to replace him.

With Mannion’s arrival, the Eagles will be switching to the Shannahan-style offense next season, the scheme that is used by teams such as the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers, where Mannion was the quarterbacks coach last season.

Barkley said based on the scheme, it will look different from what the Eagles did last season.

“From everything that was told, it is very creative and super smart,” Barkley said. “All the guys that we hired are super smart and competitive. They want to be great and they’re excited with the talent that we have.”

“I think we will buy into everything that’s new and continue to have our standard and all the things that we do at a high level,” Barkley continued. “I feel like what we did last year is going to be in the past. You have to learn from it, and I think that we have the guys that are willing to learn from it.”
