The Kansas City Chiefs are not entering a rebuild after a poor season like many other teams are; rather, they’re looking to re-tool in order to get back to their championship caliber ways. With Patrick Mahomes at quarterback and a couple of tweaks around the roster, the Chiefs could very easily be back in the mix next season.

One area Kansas City will need to build back up is its offensive line, which fell below the Chief standard this past season.

The No. 1 offensive lineman on the free agent market according to “The Athletic” is Rasheed Walker, who has spent the first four seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers.

According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the Kansas City Chiefs have their eye on Walker along with a few other teams. He’ll be one of Chiefs top targets this offseason.

Chiefs Eyeing Offensive Tackle Rasheed Walker

Walker plays the most valuable position on the O-line, offensive tackle. As opposed to the guards or the center, the tackle often has the tall task of defending opposing teams edge rushers, who are often the most talented players on the defensive side of the ball.

Where Walker excels the most is in his pass blocking ability. He ranked 11th last season in pass block win rate, at 94 percent (the difference between the No. 11 spot and the No. 1 spot is only two percent). He would immediately make the Chiefs line significantly better, giving Mahomes more time to throw, which was a huge issue in 2025.

According to La Canfora, the only other team expressing early heavy interest in Walker is the New England Patriots, who are coming off of a run to the Super Bowl. The Patriots, despite their success in 2025, had one of the weaker offensive lines in the NFL, so they may be coming after Walker hard.

Kansas City may need to make a quick first impression on Walker once free agency opens on March 11, because New England may be keen to get a guy like that locked up quickly.

Walker is the top target on the market as far as tackles go; Jermaine Eluemunor and Braden Smith are the next two comparable talents, though after that the depth really drops off.

Walker’s Asking Price, Chiefs Cap Space

According to “The Athletic,” Walker is set to earn a four-year, $82 million deal. This seems like a lot for a tackle, but it would actually only make Walker the 16th highest paid tackle in the league.

When you look at it that way, it’s kind of a bargain.

As far as the Chiefs cap space goes, that’s a whole different story. Currently, Kansas City is actually $14 million over the cap, the fifth worst cap space in the league. But take everything with a grain of salt this early in the offseason; contracts can be restructured and players can be cut.

And with how the Chiefs cap looks right now, both of those are guaranteed to happen to free up space for players like Walker who will massively improve the team.
