Washington Commanders offensive tackle Andrew Wylie.
The Washington Commanders are making moves to solidify their offensive line in 2026 in hopes of better protecting quarterback Jayden Daniels, and that starts with a move to bring back a 2-time Super Bowl champion.
According to multiple reports, the Commanders have signed offensive tackle Andrew Wylie to a 2-year, $7.5 million contract.
Wylie, 6-foot-5 and 304 pounds, won a pair of Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs following the 2019 and 2022 seasons but has been with the Commanders since 2023, when he signed a 3-year, $24 million free agent contract.
“Source: The Commanders and RT Andrew Wylie have agreed to a 2-year, $7.5M contract with upside to $10.5M, keeping him off the FA market,” The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov wrote on his official X account on Monday. “Wylie has started 34 games in 3 seasons with Washington and wanted to stay with the organization. A win-win deal for both sides.”
“The Commanders have signed OL Andrew Wylie to a two-year contract, source confirms,” ESPN’s John Keim wrote on X. “Wylie became a valuable backup/spot starter this season. Helps OL depth. Made it clear at season’s end: he wanted to stay.”
Wylie Seemed Like Trade Bait Before 2025 Season
After the Commanders spent their first round pick (No. 29 overall) on Oregon offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr., The Athletic’s Ben Standig suggested Wylie might be expendable in a trade before the 2025 season.
“The wonder is whether Brandon Coleman could serve as Sam Cosmi’s replacement while the right guard recovers from ACL surgery that likely keeps him sidelined at least through training camp, or he challenges left guard Nick Allegretti for the starting role,” Standig wrote on April 24. “Two-year right tackle starter Andrew Wylie is already figured to be in the guard mix after the Laremy Tunsil trade. It’s possible the solid lineman becomes available for trade.”
Instead, the 31-year-old Wylie played in 16 games with 5 starts after starting 15 games in 2023 and 14 games in 2024 as the Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the 1st time since 1991.
Following a 5-12 record in 2025, it might be a good sign the Commanders are trying to keep some key components in place.
Wylie’s Value Moving Forward TBD
Wylie, who will turn 32 years old in August, could be an attractive trade target for another team in 2026 because of his experience.
The 6-foot-6, 309-pound Eastern Michigan product went undrafted in 2017 and spent that season on the practice squad for 4 different teams before catching on with the Chiefs at the single greatest time to do so in the franchise’s almost 70-year history.
In 6 seasons with the Chiefs, Wylie played in the AFC Championship Game 5 times and played in the Super Bowl 3 times, winning following the 2019 and 2022 seasons. He was a full-time starter from 2018 to 2022, including starting all 17 games for the only time in his career in 2022.
“One thing I really appreciate about Adam Peters is how much he’s prioritized O-line for Jayden Daniels,” Elite Takes wrote on its official X account. “No such thing as having too many playable guys up front.”
“On the Commanders re-signing Andrew Wylie to a two-year extension: Entering his 9th season … Spent the last 3 years in DC … Has played both tackle and guard Smart to keep him around as depth,” 106.7-FM The Fan’s Grant Paulsen wrote on X. “Versatile guy who’s well liked in the building.”
