In the coming days, I’ll be doing brief synopses for each NFL team regarding their current cap situation and offseason approach they should take.
We’ll start with the teams that have the most cap space available, then work our way down to those teams who have less cap space, to those who have work to do to gain cap space.
Each synopsis will look at cap space (or how much over the cap), players under contract, total draft picks, any players with a fifth-year option decision ahead and notes about the most notable free agent, the most likely player cut and the quarterback situation.
In this installment, we’ll look at the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Players under contract for 2026: 64
Projected cap space: $13M over the cap
Total draft picks: 11 (no first-round pick)
Most notable free agent: Devin Lloyd
Most likely roster cut: Arik Armstead
Fifth-year option decision: Anton Harrison
Quarterback situation: Trevor Lawrence will be the starter in 2026.
The ideal offseason approach:
The Jaguars will need to make a couple of moves to get under the cap, particularly if they want to take a big swing on a free agent they think will get them further in the playoffs. They might need to take that swing because they have no first-round pick.
The good news is they do have a lot of draft picks in the later rounds, notably three picks in the third round (one a projected comp pick) and they might consider trading Brian Thomas for draft capital. But if they are looking for an immediate contributor, free agency might be their best bet.
Along with parting ways with underperforming players, the Jaguars should determine what they want to do with Travon Walker. He’s coming off a down season, but an extension would help lower his cap number.
