Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine proposed the Pittsburgh Steelers trade cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired 3-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey in a trade just last year. But if it were up to Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine, the veteran defensive back would be on the move again this offseason.
In an article entitled, “1 trade we’d like to see for every NFL team,” Ballentine named Ramsey the trade target he’d like for the Dallas Cowboys.
“Dallas also came up as a potential suitor when the Dolphins were potentially looking to trade Ramsey last spring, although Cowboys insider Ed Werder refuted the report,” wrote Ballentine.
“Still, one year later and the Cowboys have a need in the defensive backfield. They released Trevon Diggs at the end of the season and DaRon Bland is the only sure thing coming back next season.”
Ballentine proposed the Cowboys acquire Ramsey from the Steelers for 2026 fifth-round pick.
“There is risk in trading for Ramsey. He’s 31 and was moved to safety in the latter half of the season in Pittsburgh,” Ballentine added. “However, it probably would only cost a Day 3 pick given his price tag and age.
“Even if the Cowboys have to keep him at safety, he would bring playmaking and leadership to the secondary.”
Ramsey posted 88 combined tackles with four tackles for loss in 17 games with the Steelers last season. He also had eight pass defenses and one interception on his way to the Pro Bowl, the eighth of his career.
Why Steelers Could Part With Jalen Ramsey
The Steelers acquired Ramsey last summer for his stardom and versatility. A 10-year pro, Ramsey also brought experience to Pittsburgh.
Ramsey would bring all of that to the Cowboys if dealt to Dallas this offseason.
While still a quality, versatile option, the Steelers might be interested in dealing Ramsey because he’s not a superstar anymore. The team could flip Ramsey after a year for an additional pick.
That could help the Steelers get younger immediately. It would also allow the team to dump salary from one of the more expensive defenses in the league.
Ramsey will turn 32 in October. The veteran will also have about a $17.23 million cap hit in 2026.
While Ramsey was a Pro Bowler last year, he hasn’t been an All-Pro level player since 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams.
Steelers Recent Trade History With Cowboys
The Steelers and Cowboys don’t have a long trade history. But last May, the two teams executed one of the more notable trades of last offseason.
That deal involved star wide receiver George Pickens. With that trade in mind, the Steelers and Cowboys could be trade partners again for Ramsey.
If the Steelers deal Ramsey this offseason, it would make the most sense for them to trade him out of the conference. The Steelers also don’t play the Cowboys next season. So they wouldn’t have to worry about facing Ramsey if they deal him to Dallas.
The veteran cornerback is no stranger to NFL trades. Ramsey has played for four different teams in his professional career and yet never been a free agent.
He’s been traded three separate times, all of them since 2019.
