Indianapolis, Indiana (WGR550) – As the annual NFL Scouting Combine begins here in Indianapolis this week, the Buffalo Bills have re-signed a couple players to contract extensions.
Offensive lineman Alec Anderson, who has been a key contributor as an extra lineman in heavy packages and has filled in as a backup for injured starters the last couple seasons, and defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis, a former second round pick who joined the club last year, were both inked to one-year deals, the team announced.

Anderson was set to become a Restricted Free Agent. The Bills had to at least tender a qualifying minimum offer to retain his rights. That won’t be necessary now with the new deal.
Starting left guard David Edwards and starting center Connor McGovern are both going to be Unrestricted Free Agents next month. Anderson has experience at both positions and could become the starter at either spot next season if the Bills lose either or both players.
Anderson joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in 2022 and has played in all 34 games over the last two years, starting six at various positions.
Mathis was the 47th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, taken by the Washington Commanders after playing four seasons at Alabama. After spending three years in Washington, he signed with the Bills last season and appeared in six games.
