The Tennessee Titans didn’t just hire a great head coach in Robert Saleh, but they managed to bring in Brian Daboll as their offensive coordinator as well. Daboll’s time as the head coach in New York may not have ended well, but there is no doubt the magic he can put together for an offense, just like he did with the Bills from 2018-2021.
At the same time, Daboll can only do his job as well as the talent that he has will perform. Mike Borgonzi has to surround Cam Ward with a great supporting cast, but he may have to make a very-well expected move before doing so.
Alex Kay from Bleacher Report listed the top ten potential cap casualties across the NFL, which comes after the Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Kay listed Titans’ wide receiver Calvin Ridley has a top cap casualty and it makes a ton of sense.
Titans releasing Calvin Ridley makes too much sense
“Ridley didn’t come close to making good on his four-year, $92 million deal. He caught 64 passes for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns in his first season and played in just seven games this past year, catching 17 balls for a meager 303 yards and zero scores.” said Kay.
In addition to his lack of production, Kay also discussed the financial benefit of releasing Ridley:
“Designating Ridley as a post-June 1 release would give the Titans $18.4 million in immediate cap relief with only $8 million in dead money incurred.” said Kay.
Honestly, this just seems like a no-brainer move that Borgonzi should be making sooner than later. With a new coaching regime and the chance to save a great amount of money, releasing Ridley who hasn’t been the player he once was in Atlanta is a move that is well expected.
Unless Daboll is planning on implementing Ridley into the system that will help him shine in 2026, no fans should be surprised to see Ridley out of Nashville by next month. Now granted, nothing is confirmed and anything can happen.
Heck, maybe, just maybe, the Titans decide to keep Ridley and he agrees to a paycut. However, until noted otherwise, it makes sense to expect the Titans to move on from Ridley. With free agency coming up here in less than a month, the Titans will have some key roster decisions to make, including what to do with Ridley.
