Aside from figuring out their future at quarterback and finding another receiver, the Pittsburgh Steelers have another offensive decision to make this offseason. General manager Omar Khan must choose whether to pick up left tackle Broderick Jones’ fifth-year option by May 1.

Jones, a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, suffered a neck injury against the Chicago Bears in Week 12, which sidelined him for the rest of the season. It sounds like that’s a factor Khan is considering as he weighs whether to secure Jones past next season.

“Obviously, he had a significant injury and we’re monitoring how he progresses,” Khan said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “I know he’s working hard. It’s early in the process. That’s certainly something that we’re monitoring.”

Jones started 11 games at left tackle last season, taking over for Dan Moore, who left to join the Tennessee Titans in free agency. Jones mainly played right tackle before that.

Dylan Cook’s emergence as a viable option could also be something to consider. Cook began last season on the practice squad before being thrust into action in Week 14 against the Baltimore Ravens. He was the Steelers’ No. 4 option, after Jones, Calvin Anderson and Andrus Peat.

“Dylan did a really good job for us when he had to come,” Khan said. “He really did. I wasn’t surprised, because I’ve seen his work ethic and how important it is to him. He’s got that quarterback background. I think that helped him. I think he’s a good player. He stepped in and I think, played at a good level.”
