Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill could be reunited with the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s pretty clear what the Miami Dolphins are doing. Basically, if you aren’t named Jaylen Waddle or De’Von Achane and you make more than minimum wage, you’re gone.
It’s not known if Sam Hinkie replaced Chris Grier as the team’s general manager, but he might as well have. They are roughly one Tua Tagovailoa dumping away from completing the first stage in the Process.
Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was tossed aside a week ago to the surprise of no one. His contract was enormous, he’s a royal headache, he’s north of 31-years old, has issues off the field and, oh, he suffered a significant injury last year.
Did I miss anything?
The move saved the Dolphins about $22.8 million in cap space and about $3 million in team-issued Tylenol.
What’s next for Tyreek Hill after his release from the Miami Dolphins?
So now, the Dolphins are Tyreek-less and he’s team-less (like Ghost is faceless?). Obviously, no team was willing to pony up anything for the mercurial wideout in trade. His increased age, diminished skill set and penchant for the intolerable made it impossible for another team to part with so much as a seventh-round pick.
Jason La Canfora of Sports Boom talked to a few NFL executives who said they don’t want any parts of him, free or not.
“We aren’t touching him,” one general manager told La Canfora.
“No chance. We think he’s done. He isn’t a difference-maker anymore. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Not even as a vet-minimum guy for us.”
After speaking to folks around the league, La Canfora came away thinking the feeling amongst most teams is, “nah” when it comes to signing Hill.
“Some teams may be keen to diminish the former standout to perhaps try to stamp down his earning potential, but several trusted sources were adamant that Hill is too much of an issue in the locker room and too limited physically at this stage of his career to be counted on to perform,” La Canfora writes.
Could Tyreek Hill resurface with the Kansas City Chiefs
“Many have speculated about a possible reunion with the Chiefs, given their significant needs on offense, and perhaps that will end up making the most sense, but at a salary that is a drastic departure from what he’s been accustomed to earning,” La Canfora writes.
Would a reunion with the Chiefs be realistic? Well, it’s safe to say that none of the executives that La Canfora spoke to were from the Chiefs. Otherwise, this entire article would be about something else with a completely different headline.
Some NFL analysts believe that Hill reuniting with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes is a match made in heaven. Maybe they’ll want to get the band back together.
“Not only do they need him, he needs them,” Louis Riddick, the analyst and former NFL safety, said Wednesday on ESPN’s “First Take” regarding Hill’s return to Kansas City.
It makes logical sense, but until something’s done, it’s not done. And with the NFL Combine coming up and the NFL Draft and free agency, it’s rumor central time. It’s a ton of fun, but there is a lot of nonsense out there.
What we do know is, the Dolphins couldn’t get squat for Hill.
“They weren’t going to get anything for him in trade,” one NFL personnel executive said. “I don’t think free agency is going to be very kind, either.”
