Duke Tobin of the Cincinnati Bengals was once again front and center in front of the media at the NFL combine.

This time, Tobin had key items like the Trey Hendriunckson saga to address. Overall, he was as vague and non-revealing as usual.

But not about everything.

Tobin dropped this line about the offseason process: “We have resources to attack the offseason in a big way.”

It’s not exactly false, either.

According to Over the Cap, the Bengals currently have roughly $53 million in free cap space. That’s before any cuts or contract restructures that happen to save cap space, too.

We’ll see the how and why of the Bengals’ spending this offseason. But the team’s stance all along has been that the roster wasn’t good enough last year while hinting at big changes to the defense.

What about Trey Hendrickson?

Tobin otherwise reverted to his normal ways at these pressers.

That’s especially true on the topic of Hendrickson:

“I don’t throw anything on or off the table with Trey (Hendrickson) … I’m not gonna talk about how we’re gonna deploy our resources and what our intention is with the (franchise) tag. I’m not gonna close any doors on any player that we’ve had or any of our free agents.”

Prior reporting said Tobin and the Bengals will get a sense of Hendrickson’s trade market while talking with other teams at the combine, then decide if they want to apply a franchise tag.

A tag-and-trade would be super rare for the Bengals and perhaps only net about a third-round pick. But there’s good reason for Tobin and the team to remain quiet about the topic in public.
