The New Orleans Saints have a full-on quarterback battle ready to rage on during training camp and one player in particular has gotten off to a hot start at organized team activities: Spencer Rattler.
While this isn’t a battle that’ll be won anytime soon, it’s never a bad thing to get off to a nice start. Per Ross Jackson of LouisianaSports.Net, Rattler completed all eight of his passes with a highlight completion to tight end Michael Jacobson. It was a tight window over a linebacker but under a defender that was closing in.
Tyler Shough didn’t have a bad day, by any means, completing seven of his eight passes per Sean Fazende for Fox 8, but Rattler’s placement and composure reportedly shined through. It makes sense, he’s been through this before. It would be a bit concerning if the sophomore didn’t show up to OTAs throwing with some confidence.
Rattler is the player with more experience, even if it is slight, so one might think he has the leg up to start week one. This is a new coaching staff, though, and Shough was intriguing enough to them to spend a second-round pick on. This will be a fun match to watch as the season gets closer. Jake Haener even had a shot to make his case, but an oblique injury that will sideline him for a couple of weeks will put him behind the others.
