After billboards popped up around Nashville over the weekend, the Tennessee Titans further teased their upcoming uniform redesign by posting a graphic to social media that shows three navy blue stars against a light blue background with the likely reveal date of March 12 and the caption “A New Chapter Begins.”

It’s a month earlier than expected, as recent uniform redesigns were unveiled in April as a lead up to the NFL Draft, including the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and New York Jets in 2024, while throwback uniforms and alternate helmets are typically revealed in July.

Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon revealed last spring that new uniforms were in the works, though it was widely expected that they wouldn’t arrive until the Titans moved into their new stadium in 2027. He also said they were “very similar” to the Houston Oilers throwback uniforms the franchise wore from 2023-24.

That description and the recent leak of the Titans’ new logo on a retail listing on Fanatics suggested the franchise might be returning to the Columbia blue and red color scheme it used for 37 seasons in Houston, as well as their first two years in Tennessee before they adopted their current nickname.

But the three stars in the graphic, which are pulled from the Tennessee state flag and are prominent feature of their current and new logo, suggest that navy blue will remain a part of their color palette – though we can guess it’ll be in a significantly reduced fashion compared to their 1999-2017 and 2018-24 sets.

The teaser photo didn’t offer any insights as to where the three stars might appear on the uniforms, though it wouldn’t a surprise to see them on the shoulders. After all, the Titans wore a shoulder patch during their first two seasons in Tennessee – when they were still known as the Oilers – that included the three stars and roundel from the state flag.

The Titans have used the same primary logo since adopting their current nickname in 1999, leaning into Greek mythology with light blue, red and navy blue flames trailing the roundel. Their secondary logo, which is a sword that doubles as a “T” and displays the three stars and roundel at the center, has also remained unchanged.

The inclusion of the navy blue stars in the graphic also means the uniforms won’t be a one-for-one replication of the Oilers’ design, as many previously thought, though it’s widely expected they’ll return to white helmets, light blue jerseys and white pants for their primary home look with white jerseys on the road.

As for the date, March 11 marks the first day of the new league year and the start of free agency. Whereas most teams want their first-round draft picks to hold up their new jerseys at their introductory press conferences, perhaps the Titans are aiming to do the same with their free agents, as they have the most cap space in the league.
