While speaking with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort suggested that he and quarterback Kyler Murray had spoken with each other since the end of the 2025 season.

Somebody within Murray’s camp seemingly didn’t want to wait long to refute that claim.

Kyler Murray, Cardinals not on speaking terms?

“A source told ESPN that the two have not talked since the season ended,” Cardinals reporter Josh Weinfuss of ESPN shared after Ossenfort offered his comments.

Specifically, Ossenfort mentioned that he has “always had a good dialogue with Kyler.”

Earlier in February, a report revealed that the Cardinals were “likely to move on from” Murray at some point after the new league year opens on March 11. He has notched zero playoff wins since the Cardinals made him the first overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, and he most recently made just five starts
this past season before he was shut down because of a foot injury.

Previously, Mike LaFleur said that he had spoken with Murray after LaFleur was hired as the club’s new head coach. Like LaFleur, Ossenfort wasn’t working for the Cardinals when they signed the signal-caller to a five-year contract extension reportedly worth $230.5M with $160M guaranteed in the summer of 2022.

Cardinals likely “moving forward” without Kyler Murray

“And I’d say [last season] wasn’t up to what Kyler wanted,” Ossenfort added on Tuesday. “It wasn’t up to what any of us wanted as a season as a whole. And, so, when you have the kind of year that we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and so we got to find a way to do that, not only at that position, in all positions, but that’s what we’re all focused on, is getting better and moving forward.”

Arizona finished the campaign with a record of 3-14. Ossenfort also said that “all options are on the table for us” regarding Murray’s future. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Murray’s 2027 base salary of $19.5M would be guaranteed if he’s still with Arizona on March 15.

If nothing else, Weinfuss’ update indicates the relationship involving Murray and the Cardinals is damaged beyond repair. Thus, any interested team has little reason to trade for the 28-year-old and can probably just wait for him to be released.Â
