The New York Jets have a lot of work to do this offseason. With needs at quarterback, wide receiver, and across the defense, there are plenty of moves on the horizon.
Darren Mougey has already gotten to work improving Aaron Glenn’s defense, trading away Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans for T’Vondre Sweat. But the Jets’ defense needs more help, especially at cornerback.
That’s why Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report named Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowl cornerback Tariq Woolen as the “perfect” fit for Glenn’s defense to replace Suace Gardner in the secondary.
Jets ‘perfect’ free agent is Seahawks CB Tariq Woolen
“One of Aaron Glenn’s most important duties during his time in Detroit was finding corners who could play press-man,” Ballentine writes. “Riq Woolen is a bit volatile in coverage, but he has all the tools to play really physical press-man coverage.”
Gardner is gone, and the Jets need to address their cornerback room. While they have some options on the roster already, Woolen would be the exact kind of player Glenn would want to have in his secondary.
Since the Jets’ head coach is now calling plays on defense, giving him the players that he wants will be key for the Jets to turn things around in 2026.
Woolen is going to be 27 years old at the start of the 2026 season. He’s played four years and made 53 starts for the Seahawks since the 2022 NFL Draft.

Now a free agent, Woolen will surely have some options, but the Jets, who have nearly $80 million in cap space, can easily afford to pay Woolen the most money this offseason.
Following the 2025 season, in which the Jets didn’t record a single interception, adding someone like Woolen, a ballhawk with 12 interceptions in his four-year NFL career, is exactly the kind of player the Jets need.
While he might be prone to busted coverages, the Jets need someone who can take the ball away more so than a corner who’s safe in coverage. Woolen is a great fit for the Jets, and Ballentine named him the Jets’ “perfect” free agent target this offseason.
