Huntsville’s Sweat traded to NY Jets

  • February 26, 2026

(KBTX) – In a significant mid-season trade, the Tennessee Titans have agreed to deal nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat to the New York Jets in exchange for pass rusher Jermaine Johnson II. The trade marks the next chapter for the former Huntsville High School standout who has quickly made an impact in the NFL.

The trade was reported on Thursday, as the NFL approaches the start of the new league year. Sweat, who was drafted 38th overall in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft by Tennessee, will now join the Jets’ defensive line, while Johnson heads to the Titans as part of the swap.

Sweat’s journey to the NFL began at Huntsville High School, where he was an all-state and multi-year all-district defensive lineman who earned District MVP honors in 2018. His standout performance helped lead Huntsville to a 12-2 season and a Texas Class 5A Division II state quarterfinals appearance. His high school success earned him a scholarship to play for the University of Texas.

At the University of Texas, Sweat became one of the most dominant defensive linemen in college football:

The 6-foot-4, 366-pound defensive tackle made an immediate impact in his rookie season with the Titans, starting 16 games, totaling 51 tackles (4 for loss), 1.0 sack, a pass deflection, a forced fumble, and a notable 30-yard fumble recovery return against the Bengals.

In 2025, he played in 12 games with 34 tackles, 2.0 sacks, and a tackle for loss.

Sweat was honored recently at a Huntsville City Council meeting for his commitment to enriching the lives of Huntsville youth, demonstrating that his impact extends far beyond football statistics.
