The Chicago Bears could be preparing to trade one of their young quarterbacks this offseason.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Bears have received calls regarding the availability of backup quarterback Tyson Bagent.
Wide receiver D.J. Moore has also been receiving trade interest from rival teams.
“Two other names the Bears have received calls on are QB Tyson Bagent and WR DJ Moore, per sources,” Schultz said on X.
Bagent has been Caleb Williams’ backup with the Bears over the last few seasons, appearing in 12 games through three years.
The 25-year-old hasn’t seen the field much lately, but in four starts in 2023, he led Chicago to a 2-2 record and completed 65.7% of his passes. Bagent did struggle to take care of the ball, though, tossing six interceptions to just three touchdowns.
Bagent has shown flashes in preseason play, making him a high-level backup and earning him a two-year extension from the Bears ahead of the 2025 season. However, the Shephard product is expendable for the Bears with Caleb Williams establishing himself as the quarterback of the future.
The Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Atlanta Falcons could all be potential suitors for Bagent in a trade with Chicago.
Kansas City might need a new backup signal-caller in 2026 with Gardner Minshew set to hit free agency. Bagent could be that guy and start a few games at the beginning of the year for the Chiefs if Patrick Mahomes isn’t ready to return from knee surgery in Week 1.
Like Kansas City, Los Angeles’ backup quarterback from 2025, Jimmy Garoppolo, is going to be a free agent. Bagent would be an upgrade over Garoppolo and give Sean McVay a young developmental quarterback.
Atlanta will cut Kirk Cousins at the start of the league year, meaning they will also need a new No. 2 signal-caller. Trading for Bagent to compete with Michael Penix Jr. would bring the best out of Kevin Stefanski’s quarterback room.
Overall, Bagent shouldn’t be too expensive to trade for and would provide valuable depth for any team. So the Chiefs, Rams, and Falcons should explore a trade for the Bears quarterback.
