The Los Angeles Rams will have some tough decisions to make about their internal free agents this offseason. While they don’t have many big ones to worry about, some of their key contributors might sign elsewhere this spring, starting with starting safety Kamren Curl.
The six-year veteran joined the Rams on an inexpensive two-year deal in 2024, but has performed well enough over that stretch to earn a big payday this offseason. So while the Rams could re-sign him they have with others over the past year, a lot of experts believe Curl will land on another team for the 2026 season.

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz predicts Curl will sign with the Chicago Bears this offseason. The team might need safety help with some of their own internal free agents possibly leaving, and the secondary provided to be a major pain point for Chicago all offseason — including in the NFC divisional round against the Rams.
Both Jaquan Brisker and Kevin Byard III are free agents, so even if one of them returns, the Bears will need help at the safety position. Curl can play either deep or in the box, depending on what Chicago needs and which of their veterans is re-signed in free agency.
Curl recorded two interceptions and five passes defensed in 2025, and he was tied for fifth with 79 solo tackles.
The safety position is traditionally undervalued, but having a good one unlocks another level for a team’s defense. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bears hone in on Curl if they don’t or aren’t able to keep their current defensive starters.
If Curl leaves, that opens up the door for a new position of need for L.A. The Rams could elevate Jaylen McCollough to a more full-time starting role, find a replacement in free agency, the draft, or via a trade, or perhaps defensive coordinator Chris Shula will get creative with his coverage schemes this year.
