There is a new center hitting the free-agent market.
According to multiple reports, the Washington Commanders are releasing center Tyler Biadasz, which is surprising for multiple reasons.
For starters, Biadasz was solid at center in 2025, with the veteran giving up three sacks and 21 pressures while posting Pro Football Focus grades of 71.2 in run-blocking and 67.1 in pass-blocking.
Biadasz also didn’t cost a lot, as he was slated to account for a cap hit of $10.9 million in 2026, and Washington doesn’t save much by cutting him, with the Commanders gaining just $2.8 million in cap space while incurring $8.1 million in dead money.
As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and that could be the case for the Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and Green Bay Packers, all of whom may explore the center market in free agency.
Las Vegas’ need at center will depend upon how the team views 2024 second-round pick, Jackson Powers-Johnson, who has played primarily at guard during his career but was a center in college and showed flashes of brilliance there in his rookie year.
In Green Bay, the expectation is the Packers will cut veteran center Elgton Jenkins, and there’s no guarantee Sean Rhyan will be re-signed to play that role.
The Giants have a starting center in-house with John Michael Schmitz, but he has been disappointing over three years and is now entering the final year of his deal.
Biadasz previous contract paid him just short of $10 million per season. We wouldn’t expect him to exceed that amount in free agency, which makes him a cost-effective option for center-needy teams.
