The Seattle Seahawks have some very big decisions to make this offseason. Kenneth Walker, Rashid Shaheed, Coby Bryant, Tariq Woolen, Josh Jobe, and Boye Mafe are all free agents.
That doesn’t even include the mammoth extensions on the horizon for Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon. John Schneider is going to make his money’s worth this offseason, as he has a lot of work to do.
Even though they have a lot of big internal decisions to make, ESPN’s Aaron Schatz projects that the Seahawks will sign an unexpected free agent, poaching Jauan Jennings from the San Francisco 49ers.
Seahawks projected to sign Jauan Jennings in free agency
“This signing would achieve a couple of goals for the Seahawks,” Schatz writes. “It would give them a receiver to replace Rashid Shaheed if he leaves in free agency. Furthermore, Jennings is a strong run blocker, and the Seahawks still want to be a run-first offense.”
Signing Jennings, a 6-foot-3, 212-pound wide receiver from a division rival, considering all of the needs and issues the Seahawks need to address in the near future, would be a surprise.
Jennings won’t be cheap, as he’s one of the best receivers set to hit free agency this offseason. He’s coming off a nine-touchdown season on 55 receptions. While his 643-yards weren’t the best, his redzone work was incredible.
Seattle will need to address the receiver position this offseason. Shaheed is going to be a free agent, and Tory Horton is coming off an injury. It’s not a major need, but it is something Schneider will have to address this offseason.

Adding Jennings to the Seahawks offense, alongside Cooper Kupp and JSN, would be an interesting move. Not only is Jennings not a player linked to Seattle this offseason, but with the other major needs for Seattle, spending so much on a WR would be bold.
In his NFL career, Jennings has 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns on 210 receptions in his five-year career. He’s a good receiver, but with Kupp under contract, Smith-Njigba a superstar, and the team’s other needs, this would be a surprising signing.
While there is a connection with the new Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, who’s from the 49ers, adding Jennings wouldn’t make much sense for the Seahawks, considering their other pressing needs.
This projection from Schatz would be a very surprising one. While, in theory, the fit makes sense, the reality of the Seahawks’ situation makes adding Jennings a long shot this offseason.
