One of the San Francisco 49ers‘ restricted free agents could be courted this offseason.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the agent of 49ers cornerback/special teams player Chase Lucas told him he expects other teams to be interested in signing Lucas this offseason if the 49ers don’t tender him. As a restricted free agent, the 49ers can place a draft round tender on Lucas, which would require the team that signs him to forfeit that pick if the 49ers don’t match the offer.
The most obvious team Garafolo said would be interested in Lucas is the Tennessee Titans, who just hired ex-49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to be their head coach.
Lucas played in 15 games for the 49ers this past season after not seeing any regular-season action in 2024. Lucas, who will be 29 in March, had nine tackles and one defended pass in 98 defensive snaps.
Lucas saw his most action on special teams, where he played in more than half of the 49ers’ special teams snaps. During his two seasons with the Detroit Lions, Lucas also mostly played on special teams.

Saleh already has a history of bringing his former players to Tennessee. He recently traded for New York Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, whom Saleh drafted in the first round of the 2022 draft out of Florida State.
