Likely plays the long game and lands a well-time jab on Patrick Mahomes.
Week 1 of the 2024 NFL regular season… Opening night in the house of the defending Super Bowl champions… The National Football League’s schedule makers got this one right. The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, two teams that met in the previous AFC Championship Game, kicked off pro football’s 105th campaign. There was no shortage of fireworks. And, the game ended with a bit of controversy.
Isaiah Likely balled out. He was targeted a dozen times and netted 111 receiving yards and a touchdown on nine receptions. Lamar Jackson called his number repeatedly, and his young tight end delivered each time. Then came the final play of regulation and the evening.
Let’s say the flock didn’t get the end that it was hoping for.
It was an unfortunate ending to what felt like it would be one of the most thrilling Ravens victories of recent memory. Still emotional after a three-hour ride that carried us late into the evening, Patrick Mahomes didn’t endear himself to the flock when asked for his take on the TD reversal.
White shoes? Really?
Yeah, this guy is one of the best of this era, but has anyone noticed that his personality has seemingly become more annoying ever since he was featured on that Quarterback documentary on Netflix?
Isaiah Likely finally offers his response to Patrick Mahomes’ jab more than eight months later.
Much can happen in nine months, including a full-term pregnancy. It’s been nearly nine months since the Chiefs and Ravens began another NFL season with a thrilling ode to our great game at Arrowhead Stadium.
They say the losses are harder to get over than the wins. Maybe that’s true. Here we sit, again, nearly nine months after Mahomes’ jab, and it doesn’t sit any better than when he first said it. The Ravens get their shot at revenge in Week 4. The visit K.C. and earn another shot at Mahomes and company. To tide us over, Isaiah Likely finally took his opportunity to respond to Mahomes’ jab from last September.
Isaiah was a guest on Up & Adams recently. It was an intriguing conversation. He expressed his love for Baltimore and the Ravens organization. Another of the highlights was his response to Kay Adams’ questions, one of which asked if he was considering wearing white shoes for the upcoming campaign.
Here’s a bold prediction. This one ends with another Ravens fourth-quarter drive to determine the outcome. Again, Action Jackson looks for Likely with the game on the line. Again, Isaiah hauls in the go-ahead TD.
Again, Baltimore’s young tight end is wearing black cleats. This time, however, the Ravens’ final TD doubles as a go-ahead score. Baltimore leaves Arrowhead with a critical road victory. This time, the Chiefs’ kingdom leaves their hallowed ground in stunned silence.
