Hutto three-star running back Keilan Chavies announced his commitment Saturday to Tulsa. The 2026 prospect is the 39th-ranked running back in the nation and the 106th-ranked player in Texas according to 247Sports’ composite ranking.

Chavies broke out onto the Texas high school football scene as a sophomore, collecting 520 rushing yards and 628 receiving yards as one of the Hippo’s most dynamic weapons. Last season, Hutto used him primarily as a runner, amassing 789 yards rushing and 261 yards receiving.

Hutto hired former North Crowley offensive coordinator Eli Reinhart as its new head coach this past offseason, who has a propensity for toting the rock. That might mean more backfield touches for Chavies but Reinhart likely will not stop him from lining up all across the field.

“I mean it allows me to make plays,” Chavies said in early May. “I get to go play receiver. I get to go to play running back, I might even go play some defense.”

Wait, defense? According to Reinhart, it will depend on the kind of workload Chavies handles, but the athlete might take some snaps at cornerback at sometime this season.

Tulsa currently has the 67th-ranked recruiting class with Chavies being their top commitment out of the five they have.
