The Seattle Seahawks‘ defense was the star of the 2025 season. They shut down top teams, other than the Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford, while also completely stifling mediocre or worse offenses.
While Kenneth Walker III won Super Bowl MVP, the defense as a whole was a deserving award-winner. But a lot of that defense, especially in the secondary, is hitting free agency.
With a newfound need in the secondary, especially at cornerback, Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report named New Orleans Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor as the Seahawks’ “perfect” free agent signing this offseason.
Seahawks ‘perfect’ free agent signing would be Alontae Taylor
“Riq Woolen was not the best fit in Mike Macdonald’s scheme, so signing Alontae Taylor is a way they could go outside the organization to get better,” Ballentine writes.
With Riq Woolen and Jose Jobe both hitting free agency, along with safety Coby Bryant, the Seahawks will need to address their defensive backfield this offseason.
They need to save money to extend Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon, but they still need to add a cornerback this offseason.
Bringing in someone like Taylor, who is a far more versatile cornerback than Woolen, would be a great way to improve Macdonald’s defense after a dominant Super Bowl run.

In his four-year career with the Saints, Taylor has made 53 starts in 64 games played, recording two interceptions, 52 passes defended, three forced fumbles, seven sacks, and 293 tackles with 21 tackles for loss and 10 quarterback hits.
He’s allowed a 91.8 passer rating in coverage in his career, and while that’s not the best mark, his versatile skillset, combined with being surrounded by a star-studded defense, would make Taylor a perfect match for the Seahawks defense.
The 27-year-old cornerback was a 2022 second-round pick by the Saints. He’s now a free agent and would be a perfect signing for the Seahawks to make, given the need for more versatility in the secondary in 2026.
