The Pittsburgh Steelers have decided on their first cap casualty of the 2026 offseason.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo, the Steelers are planning to release veteran offensive tackle Calvin Anderson, which would save $2 million of his $2.415 million cap hit this upcoming season.
Signing with the Steelers as a free agent in September 2024, Anderson appeared in four games and quickly emerged as a solid backup offensive tackle. He signed a two-year extension with Pittsburgh in April 2025.
Appearing in nine games in 2025, Anderson suffered a knee injury in practice and was placed on injured reserve in December, effectively ending his season.
Injury concerns and the emergence of Dylan Cook as a top offensive tackle option didn’t do Anderson any favors, but he should likely remain one of the league’s top backups in free agency if healthy.
