The San Francisco 49ers are in need of more firepower in their pass-rush and at least one wide receiver.

The Niners specifically need more help along the edge, where the team doesn’t have a surefire starter opposite Nick Bosa, who is also coming off a torn ACL. The 49ers also ranked dead-last in sacks in 2025.

At wide receiver, San Francisco is expected to part ways with Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings is a pending free agent and is anything but guaranteed to return.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Niners are considered “sneaky contenders” for “good free agents” at both position groups.

Fowler goes on to suggest that the team may have interest in pending free agents such as Denver Broncos defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers, and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs and Minnesota Vikings wideout Jalen Nailor, all of whom are pending free agents.

The 49ers are a sneaky contender for some of the good free agents along the defensive line and at wide receiver. They want a disruptive interior rusher to pair with Nick Bosa, for example. John Franklin-Myers is the top option there. At wideout, Green Bay’s Romeo Doubs is considered a good fit for San Francisco’s offense and a potential option, along with Minnesota’s Jalen Nailor.

All three players would be ideal fits for San Francisco.

Franklin-Myers has tallied 14.5 sacks combined the past two seasons and offers inside/outside versatility. JFM is also an asset against the run, as evidenced by his 65.4 Pro Football Focus grade in that area last season.

The Broncos will no doubt have interest in bringing Franklin-Myers back, but he’s going to have a robust market that might force Denver to replace him.

Between Doubs and Nailor, the former is the more proven player.

Doubs has posted 600 yards or more three times during his career and did that despite being in a crowded wide receivers room.

And, with that crowded wide receivers room and the Packers not having a great cap space situation, it’s more likely than not that Doubs will be gone in 2026.

While Nailor has only cracked 400 yards twice during his career, he has also been stuck behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. However, Nailor has shown enough flashes to draw a good amount of interest in free agency.

Given their needs along the defensive line and at wide receiver, we could see the 49ers signing Franklin-Myers and one of the two aforementioned wideouts.
