The Denver Broncos are coming off a frustrating 2025 season, as their Super Bowl quest ended thanks to an unfortunate injury to Bo Nix.

While the defense was great, and still is for the 2026 season, the offense needs some work. The offensive line is solid, but a tight end and a running back are big needs. But the wide receiver room also needs a big addition as well.

That’s where ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler came up with a wild trade idea, which would have the Broncos sending Courtland Sutton, a top receiver on the team, to the Philadelphia Eagles for superstar WR A.J. Brown.

Broncos trade idea from ESPN sends Courtland Sutton to Eagles for AJ Brown

“That’s why some around the league believe Roseman could target a veteran receiver as part of any trade package – say, if New Orleans can’t reach a deal with Chris Olave in New Orleans, or if Denver wants to entertain a Brown-Courtland Sutton swap,” Fowler writes.

This would be a stunning way for the Broncos to upgrade their offense this offseason. With Pat Bryant showing promise to end the year, and Marvin Mims and Troy Franklin being strong options, the Broncos have the pieces outside of a truly elite No. 1 receiver.

Sutton is a good option, as he’s a two-time Pro Bowler with 6,357 yards in his eight-year NFL career. But if the Broncos could trade him as part of a deal for Brown, it would be worth it.

The Eagles’ superstar wide receiver has been named a second-team All-Pro three times in his career, and in his seven-year career, he’s put up 8,029 yards and 56 touchdowns.

This past season wasn’t the best for Brown, as he had 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns on 78 receptions. Add on that there’s some friction between the Eagles and Brown, and the Broncos could swoop in for a blockbuster trade.

This idea from Fowler, sending Sutton as part of the deal for Brown, would make a lot of sense. The Eagles would still have two good receivers, while the Broncos would upgrade and not have too many big-bodied receivers.

Plus, the Broncos wouldn’t have to give up nearly as strong a draft capital to make such a trade work. They would upgrade at WR and give Nix a true superstar option on offense.

Howie Roseman, general manager of the Eagles, won’t accept any low-ball offers for Brown, no matter how the relationship looks on the surface.

But if the Broncos could somehow make this trade work, swapping Sutton for Brown, then they would be in a far better spot in 2026 with a much more explosive top receiver for Nix to target in his third year in the NFL.
