One soon-to-be released former teammate of Aaron Rodgers is looking more and more like an ideal fit for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Minnesota Vikings told running back Aaron Jones, who played with Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers, that he would be released at the start of the new league year.

With running back Kenneth Gainwell looking to test free agency, the Steelers could find his replacement in Jones, reuniting him and Rodgers in 2026, given the potential need behind Jaylen Warren at running back.

Jones, selected by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, recorded 8,016 yards from scrimmage and 63 total touchdowns during his seven years in Green Bay.

Signing with the Vikings in 2024, Jones found success as a starter in his debut year with Minnesota, but injuries ultimately derailed his trajectory.

A reunion with Rodgers, while exciting, depends on what the veteran quarterback plans to do in 2026. But reports indicate Rodgers will give the Steelers his answer in the coming weeks, whether that’s retirement or his anticipated return.
