Las Vegas Raiders star, and New England Patriots target, Maxx Crosby has been the subject of the offseason. Many teams have been tracking developments as it relates to a potential departure from the Raiders. Now, we have another update. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer noted in his Monday Morning Quarterback column that a move could come as soon as this week.
It was reported that the Raiders wanted a hefty package in exchange for Crosby. This included two first-round draft picks and a player. This package would be similar to what the Green Bay Packers got for Kenny Clark last summer.
I’d lean toward a Maxx Crosby trade happening, and maybe this week. But there’s going to have to be some needle-threading. I don’t think the Raiders want to go through the song-and-dance of shopping him, nor do I believe Crosby wants it advertised that he’s looking for suitors, given his bond with owner Mark Davis, and his view of himself as a Raider.
We should know soon enough which path the Raiders are taking, with teams like Dallas, Chicago, Baltimore, Buffalo, New England, Philadelphia and the Rams keeping tabs on his availability.
The Patriots have made it clear that they want to build from within. They’re not going to mortgage the farm for a veteran player. However, there is clearly some proverbial smoke in regards to Crosby wanting to come to the Patriots. The Athletic’s Diana Russini reported that Crosby told her that he wants to be a member of the Patriots.
On top of this, Crosby has complemented the Patriots staff many times over the course of the last couple weeks. He did so on his podcast following the Super Bowl, while also defending Will Campbell.
Crosby Would Make Immediate Impact for Patriots
Crosby would add an immediate playmaker to the Patriots’ defense. He has recorded 69.5 sacks and 110 games. This is third in Raiders history. His 133 tackles for loss also rank first in Raiders’ history.
Putting up impressive numbers, something he has done throughout his entire career. He led the NFL in tackles for loss in 2022 with 22. He was the co-leader in 2024 was 17. He played 100% of defensive snaps before the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Waiting Game Begins For Patriots
It’s going to be interesting to see if the Patriots will be able to formulate some sort of deal. The Raiders want a high-value offer for their star. That certainly makes sense, given his capabilities on the field. This may clash with what the Patriots want to do for their long-term plans. Regardless, it’s still noteworthy that they are in the mix here, especially since Crosby has expressed interest in New England.
Now the waiting game begins. It will be interesting to see if the other teams mentioned will put together enough of the competitive package to satisfy the Raiders. This is a case where the Patriots can sit back, assess the market, and take it from there. One has to wonder then if recent reports will change, and they will up their offer.
Either way, it seems like something for Crosby will take place this week. The entire league is waiting for this domino to fall, and several big-time teams are in the mix. The Patriots are definitely in the mix, but the key here is the price point and the timing. These can change quickly, so the Patriots may need to change their strategy quickly if they want to land Crosby. One has to wonder if the Raiders will drop their initial asking price to something more cost-effective for both parties in a potential trade.
