Oklahoma had already been on a roll in the Class of 2027, but it only got sweeter for the Sooners on Tuesday afternoon with another big splash.
Brent Venables and his staff picked up a commitment from five-star linebacker Cooper Witten, giving the Sooners a foundational piece on defense in the coming years.
Witten is ranked No. 25 overall and the No. 2 linebacker in the 247Sports Composite. If his last name sounds familiar, well, it should. He is the son of former NFL tight end Jason Witten, who played in 11 Pro Bowls and is in his first year as OU’s tight ends coach.
Cooper, who plays at Liberty Christian High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, picked Oklahoma over Tennessee, Georgia and Texas A&M, giving Venables a major win over three SEC foes, including Jason’s alma mater (Tennessee) and the in-state Aggies.
With his commitment, Oklahoma continues to hold the nation’s top class and is up to three five-stars in the 2027 cycle. The Sooners have 14 total commitments, including five top-100 players and four other blue-chippers.
