After a decorated 10-year run in the Pacific Northwest, Russell Wilson’s career has gone downhill since the Seattle Seahawks dealt him away in a blockbuster 2022 trade with the Denver Broncos.
How Russell Wilson helped Seahawks win a 2nd Super Bowl
Since leaving Seattle, Wilson has gone 17-27 as a starting quarterback while playing for three teams in four seasons. In 2025, he went 0-3 as the New York Giants’ starter before being replacing by 2025 first-round draft pick Jaxson Dart.
That being said, Wilson did put up big numbers in one of his three starts for the Giants, throwing for 450 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in a Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Set to be a free agent next week, how much longer does the 37-year-old Wilson want to play? He was posed that question during an appearance on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast, which posted the wide-ranging conversation on Tuesday.
“I want to play a few more years, for sure,” Wilson said. “I think for me, I’ve always had the vision of getting to 40 at least. … I feel healthy, I feel great. But I think more than anything else, it’s do you love the game, do you love studying, do you love the passion for it all, do you love the process, do you love the practice?
“Everybody loves the winning part of it, but it’s the process, it’s the journey you’ve gotta be obsessed with. And that part I’m obsessed with – being around the fellows in the locker room and all that too. That part I still absolutely love and enjoy.”
Wilson went on to name-drop a half-dozen former Seahawks from the decade he spent in Seattle.
“Being around guys like DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett – the love of the game. Bobby Wagner, a guy who just won Man of the Year. Those are my boys for life,” Wilson said. “Guys like Cliff Avril, who played on the defensive side, but we’ve been close for a long time. … Guys like Jimmy Graham, one of my favorite teammates. We only played a couple years together, but man, we had a bunch of fun scoring touchdowns in the end zone. We’re forever locked and literally talk to him all the time. Robert Turbin, who was my roommate.
“Those are the memories and things that you never let go, you would never change anything for. And people can question plays, … but at the end of the day, I’ve given my all to the game. And when you give your all, you have nothing to apologize for.”
Wilson went on to discuss dealing with some of the challenges the past four seasons presented.
“Sometimes you fall, and people like watching you fall, and sometimes you’ve got everybody who leaves you down in the valley, but you just keep climbing,” Wilson said. “And you want to be around the people that allow you to keep climbing. … Sometimes you don’t have any more strength, but they keep pushing you up.
“And those are the people that I want to be around, because I’m gonna do the same for them.”
