This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers added 15 veterans to their roster through free agency, including some potential key contributors like cornerback Tre Brown and wide receiver DeMarcus Robinson, who should help the team crawl out of the basement of the NFC West and back into playoff contention.
Despite the veteran acquisitions early in the offseason, their 11 selections in the 2025 NFL draft could be just as impactful. In fact, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski recently identified Mykel Williams as San Francisco’s “most dangerous new addition” this year.
Williams, 20, was a five-star prospect and Maxwell Football National High School Defensive Player of the Year coming out of Hardaway High School in Columbus, Georgia. After committing to the University of Georgia, Williams won a national championship and earned second-team All-SEC honors twice while recording 67 tackles (23 for a loss), 14 sacks, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 40 collegiate games.
The 49ers took Williams with the 11th overall pick in the first round of this year’s selection meeting and are now set to pair him with five-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa to create one of the most fearsome pass-rushing tandems in the league.
Among all newcomers to San Francisco’s roster this offseason, Williams has the highest ceiling by far, as he could turn into a double-digit sack player early in his career while benefiting from the attention that Bosa will draw on the opposing side.
Brown and second-round pick Alfred Collins would be the only other players who could fall into the category of the most dangerous addition of the offseason because they’ll both be competing for a starting job. However, Williams has his spot on the depth chart written in permanent marker.
