As of now, Indianapolis Colts’ wide receiver Alec Pierce is set to hit free agency, and the New England Patriots could be one of the teams that makes a run at the big-play threat.

According to Jordan Schultz, the Patriots have been “eyeing” Pierce. New England’s need at wide receiver has also grown, with the team releasing Stefon Diggs.

With the Colts using the transition tag on Daniel Jones, that set the stage for Pierce to hit the open market. Indianapolis could still sign him to an extension beforehand, but for Pierce, exploring all of his options may be more enticing.

“I love Indy,” Pierce said on ‘Up & Adams’. “I’ve loved playing there. Great organization. Great people in the city. Just a ton of support. I know we haven’t been as good as we could be and I know we can be. But now, at this point, I’ve kind of earned the right to explore free agency. See what’s out there and make a decision that’s best for my career and my family.”

As Pierce weighs his options, quarterback play will be an important part of that decision-making process.
