The Washington Commanders continue to make roster moves ahead of the new league year beginning next week. Over the past few weeks, the Commanders have re-signed punter Tress Way, tackle/guard Andrew Wylie and agreed to a one-year extension with center/guard Nick Allegretti.

On the flip side, Washington has also moved on from some former starters. The Commanders surprisingly released starting center Tyler Biadasz and informed cornerback Marshon Lattimore he’d be released before the new league year. That one was not a surprise.

On Wednesday, GM Adam Peters worked to fortify defensive line depth, agreeing to one-year extensions for defensive end Deatrich Wise and defensive tackle Shy Tuttle.

Wise, 31, signed a one-year, $5 million contract to start at defensive end, with Washington looking to improve its run defense. Unfortunately, Wise suffered a quad injury in Week 2 and was lost for the season. His presence was missed and would be the beginning of a long, injury-filled season for the Commanders.

Wise will enter his 10th NFL season in 2026, having played his first eight years with the New England Patriots.

Tuttle, 30, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints in 2019. He spent four seasons with the Saints, followed by two with the Carolina Panthers, before signing with the Tennessee Titans last summer. Tuttle appeared in 10 games for Tennessee before he was waived in December. The Commanders claimed him off waivers and he appeared in two games, making four tackles.

These are depth signings for Washington. Remember, the Commanders have over 30 free agents, so they need players under contract. New defensive coordinator Daronte Jones is expected to run a base 3-4 defense, and Wise and Tuttle could provide depth and veteran leadership. Neither player is guaranteed to make the roster in 2026.

The signings of Wise and Tuttle will not affect Washington’s free-agent plans next week.
