The NFL offseason is in full swing, and it’s almost time for one of the most exciting parts of the the league’s new cycle.

Free agency is almost here, as all 32 NFL teams will aim to improve their rosters to have the chance of lifting the Lombardi Trophy and winning Super Bowl 61 in 2027.

The New York Jets enter Year 2 of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey leading the franchise in 2026.

The duo will have no margin for error in free agency this time around, as the Jets have ample cap space to improve a roster that finished tied with three other teams (Raiders, Cardinals and Titans) for the worst record in the NFL at 3-14 last season.

We’ll find out this and more starting next week.

Will NY Jets target QB Kyler Murray in free agency?Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) delivers a pass against the New York Jets during the first quarter at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Nov. 10, 2024.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) delivers a pass against the New York Jets during the first quarter at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Nov. 10, 2024.

In a underwhelming free agent and incoming rookie quarterback class, the Jets don’t have a ton of strong starting options for 2026.

One name that will be tied to the Jets is Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, who is expected to be release by the organization and become a free agent.

Murray, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, had an up-and-down seven seasons in Arizona. He started his career strong, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, followed by making back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2020 and 2021.

However, durability issues and underwhelming performances have been a concern for Murray over the past four seasons, as he posted just a 16-25 record since the 2022 season and playing all 17 games just once (2024) in that span.

Even with the negatives, Murray could be a bridge quarterback option for a year or two if the Jets front office decides to wait and draft a QB in the highly anticipated 2027 draft class instead of selecting one in the draft this April.

One of the positives is that since he’s owed $36.8 million guaranteed from the Cardinals in 2026, it means the Jets could sign Murray for the veteran minimum of $1.3 million.

Will NY Jets trade RB Breece Hall prior to free agency?New York Jets running back Breece Hall (20) runs the ball before being tackled by Miami Dolphins linebacker Tyrel Dodson (25) during a week 14 football game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025.

New York Jets running back Breece Hall (20) runs the ball before being tackled by Miami Dolphins linebacker Tyrel Dodson (25) during a week 14 football game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025.

In somewhat of a surprising move, the Jets decided to apply the franchise tag on running back Breece Hall for the upcoming season.

Hall is now under contract for 2026 and is scheduled to make $14.293 million, making him the fourth-highest paid RB in the NFL next season.

Both sides have said they will continue talks in hopes of coming to an agreement on a long-term deal, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the Jets do a sign-and-trade and still move Hall even after the franchise tag.

While Hall is still a member of the Jets, don’t be surprised if a team makes an offer on the 24-year-old running back to acquire even more draft capital either this year or next.
