The onset of NFL free agency means someone like Trey Hendrickson is about to become a “former” member of the Cincinnati Bengals

On that same subject, another former Bengals player just hit the open market before it officially opens early next week.

According to the team, the Arizona Cardinals cut former Bengals linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither.

A fourth-round pick by the Bengals in 2020, Davis-Gaither played in Cincinnati through the 2024 season, then earned a two-year deal worth $11 million from the Cardinals in free agency.

The Bengals fumbled linebacker majorly last offseason, signing ineffective names like Oren Burks as backups. After Logan Wilson demanded and got a trade, they didn’t have anyone they trusted to step in for struggling rookies Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter.

Going with retreads might not be the way to go for the Bengals. But Davis-Gaither is a known commodity with special teams experience and a versatile piece for the depth chart, so it shouldn’t be completely ruled out, either.
