A week away from free agency, a potential replacement for veteran guard Isaac Seumalo may have emerged for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Los Angeles Chargers released offensive guard Mekhi Becton to save almost $10 million in cap space. And the Steelers would be wise to pay close attention.

Selected by the New York Jets with the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Becton failed to live up to his first-round draft status early. Switching from offensive tackle to guard in 2024, however, proved to be one of the best decisions of his career, as he experienced a breakout year during the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Super Bowl run.

While Becton struggled during his time with the Chargers in 2025, there’s reason to believe that he’d find more success in Pittsburgh, where the offensive line play was far better than Los Angeles’ unit last season.
