Former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is widely viewed as the No. 2 quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft behind Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza. Despite being the second quarterback in the draft and the positional value around quarterbacks, Simpson is not considered a guaranteed first-round quarterback.

A few teams have been linked to Simpson in the back half of the first round and early on day two, with several having multiple picks inside the top 50 of the draft:

New York Jets (2, 16, 33, 44)
Cleveland Browns (6, 24, 39)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (15, 46)

Draft prospects will take visits to NFL teams ahead of the 2026 draft in April, with teams allocated “top 30” visits for prospects who are likely to be first-rounders. The Cleveland Browns could be interested in the Tide’s signal caller, as Ty Simpson is on a visit with the Browns, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero reported that the Browns are also hosting former Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate. The Browns currently have four quarterbacks on their roster head ingo the 2026 season:

Deshaun Watson (did not play in 2025 due to injury)
Dillon Gabriel (Played in 10 games as a rookie in 2025)
Shedeur Sanders (Played in eight games as a rookie in 2025)

Simpson, who threw for 3,567 yards and 28 touchdowns as Alabama’s starter in 2025, told reporters at the NFL combine last week that he met with the Arizona Cardinals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the New York Jets. Every team that Simpson met with, other than the Buccaneers, has an immediate need at the quarterback position before the start of NFL free agency next Monday. Simpson will take multiple visits between now and the NFL draft during the final weekend of April. He is also expected to throw during Alabama’s Pro Day, which is tentatively set for March 25.
