The free agency window has not opened for the NFL yet, but the Los Angeles Chargers and other teams are already negotiating deals before everyone becomes fair game on March 11.

Case in point, the Chargers have agreed to terms on a deal with center Tyler Biadasz to become the anchor of the interior of the offensive line for the future. The deal is worth $30 million over the next three years.

While the deal has been agreed to, the signing cannot become official until free agency begins on March 11.

The Chargers desperately needed to rebuild their offensive line this offseason to protect superstar QB Justin Herbert better. Los Angeles had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL last season, leading to Herbert being sacked six times in a playoff loss to the New England Patriots in January.

The Washington Commanders recently cut Biadasz to save money, and the Chargers are in the market for a center. He was set to make $8.3 million before being released.

The 28-year-old center will replace Los Angeles center Bradley Bozeman, who retired in February. The Chargers are also expected to replace both guards, as Zion Johnson becomes a free agent and Mekhi Becton was released after one season with the team.

Biadasz started 31 games for the Commanders over the past two seasons. He was originally a fourth-round selection by the Dallas Cowboys during the 2020 NFL Draft and later made a Pro Bowl in 2022.

The addition of Biadasz to the offense in Los Angeles will be important as Herbert and the rest of the Chargers learn a new offense under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

The goal should be to keep the team’s star quarterback upright this season after allowing 54 sacks a season ago, the second-most in the NFL.
