With the NFL Combine in the rear view mirror, the only thing that stands between now and the NFL Draft is the various pro days that schools will hold over the next month. It’ll be one of the final chances for NFL hopefuls to impress scouts and coaches by working out with a bit of a home-field advantage.
Tennessee is looking at a situation where three of its players could go in the first two rounds, with the possibility of having two first-round draft picks. Despite the concerns around his availability, Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy is widely looked at as a first-round selection, with mixed opinions on where in the Top 32 picks he’ll fall.
Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood has been one of the top risers through the draft process so far, and has been projected as either a late first-round or early second-round pick depending on which mock draft you’re looking at. Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell was one of the standouts at the NFL Combine last week, and may have moved into the second-round discussion with his 4.37 40-yard dash time.
VFL and NFL analyst Charles Davis threw his hat into the ring with the second version of his NFL mock draft for NFL.com this week. He doesn’t just have two first-round projections for his former collegiate program, but has both players landing in the Top 20 picks of the draft.
The first Vol that Davis has off the board is McCoy at 11th overall to the Miami Dolphins. This is a bit of a change of trend from what we’ve seen coming out of the combine, with many analysts dropping McCoy’s stock after he didn’t participate on the field in Indianapolis. Still, though, Davis believes that McCoy is one good showing away from keeping the Top 15 projected pick that he’s had for several weeks now.
“The potential lockdown corner’s pro day will be heavily scrutinized after he missed all of last season with an ACL tear and did not work out at the combine,” Davis writes. “If he aces the test, the Dolphins will have an immediate starter.”

In Davis’s mock draft, he’s got Colton Hood firmly established as a first-round prospect. The VFL has Hood going 20th overall to the Dallas Cowboys with the team’s second pick of the first round. Hood put together a strong lone season in Knoxville and followed that up with a great showing at the Senior Bowl and a solid performance at the NFL Combine.
“Dallas doubles down on defense in Round 1, with Hood joining McNeil-Warren to give new DC Christian Parker two talented building blocks in the secondary,” Davis writes.
Tennessee Football will host its Pro Day on Mar. 31 in Knoxville. The Vols had seven players participate at the NFL Combine event last week in Indianapolis: CB Jermod McCoy, CB Colton Hood, QB Joey Aguilar, WR Chris Brazzell, EDGE Joshua Josephs, DL Bryson Eason, and TE Miles Kitselman.
