Yianni Kourakis catches up with Drew Brees ahead of his Hall of Fame Enshrinement
What did you think of this event so far? Um, it’s great. Um, I mean, first off, um, it’s, it’s so many Hall of Fame guys, you know, come out to participate, and so it’s, it’s like *** big reunion for all the Hall of Fame guys. Um, you know, I’m, I’m new to the club. Uh, haven’t even been enshrined yet, you know, so this is, this has only been about *** month, you know, and so I think it’s still pretty surreal, still sinking in. So I have *** chance to see guys that, you know, I’ve respected for, for so many years and had ***, you know, some had *** chance to play against, you know, or with, uh, it’s pretty awesome. And then obviously you play alongside, you know, some of the best in the world in the PGA Pros, um, gives you, gives you something to aspire to, you know, I wanna, wanna come out here and compete and play well. How much are you golfing nowadays and how would you assess your round today? You know, it was, uh, the, the blow up holes were, were blow ups, you know, that’s, so there, so there’s, there’s definitely, um, some, some short game practice work that, that needs to take place, especially out of the sand. I was in the sand *** little too much, but, uh, no, I had, had some good putts, had some good shots, um, I think I shot 6 overs, so we’ll, uh, we’ll see what tomorrow brings. And last one, being the Hall of Famers seem to be like *** really close knit group, and you guys seem to all really cherish each other’s presence. What is it now that you’re part of the gold jacket crew that, I mean, you guys are whatever the 1 percenters of football. Yeah, you know, I think everybody would probably say, I don’t know if you, you set out to be *** Hall of Famer because it, it’s almost like it’s just in another stratosphere, you know, I think when you first come in this league, you’re hoping that you get *** chance to stick around for, you know, at least *** little while. And, um, you work hard, you try to be *** great teammate, um, try to win football games as *** quarterback, you know, you’re trying to win championships and win for the guys that you play with. And, you know, I, I think you just set benchmarks as you go along. I, I think initially it was like, hey, I’m just trying to be *** starter, I’m trying to be *** great player, trying to be *** Pro Bowler, trying to lead my team to the playoffs, go win *** Super Bowl. And it’s like, oh, man, what if I can get to double-digit years, and then it’s 15, and all of *** sudden it’s 20 years and you look at the body of work and you’re like, wow, I had *** chance to play *** long time and God willing, I was able to stay relatively healthy and, um, you know, play with some incredible coaches and teammates and accomplished some pretty remarkable things. And, I guess that equates to *** nod for the Hall of Fame, but uh it’s, it’s an incredible honor.
